Yes, you heard that right! On February 16, a cargo ship named “Felicity Ace” carrying high-end cars sank in the mid-Atlantic. This incident occurred 13 days after a fire onboard the ship. Felicity Ace, a 60,000-ton cargo ship carrying a big shipment of around 4000 both luxury and electric cars from Germany, caught fire near Portugal’s Azores Islands, while it was on its way to U.S. retailers in Rhode Island.

Thankfully all 22 crew members of the ship were quickly helicoptered to safety. Though the actual reason for the ship’s fire remains unknown. According to the reports, the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery in one of the ship’s automobiles. The ship sank around 253 miles off the shore of the Azores, a mid-Atlantic archipelago that is an autonomous territory of Portugal, according to MOL Ship Management Singapore. Pictures of several small ships trying to control the fire have emerged throughout the internet. All attempts of saving the shipment failed as the ship lost balance and drowned in the ocean.

The ship was carrying elite sports cars and supercars like Lamborghini Huracan, Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, Bentley Continental GT, Porsche 911, Porsche Cayenne and even the all-electric Audi e-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan. The estimated worth of the total cars is around $155 Million, equivalent to ₹11.8 Billion belonging to brands like Audi, Bentley, Porsche and others from The Volkswagen group. The loss could have been severe but the shipment was insured. The spokesperson said that the company will try to make the deliveries as early as possible keeping the current situation in hand.

A ship carrying over $400 million in vehicles is still sunk somewhere off the coast of Portugal while a fire rages. When many people merely dream of owning a luxury car, thousands of cars are currently drowned in the ocean’s depths!
